Food Sunday is August 12th Please bring non-perishable food items to the church for the Neighborhood Center. The NC helps those in our community (West Volusia) with food, clothing, temporary housing and utilities. Especially needed is any kind of canned meet (Tuna, salmon, chicken, spam), crackers, p-nut butter, soup.
Interfaith Kitchen will be serving meals to the homeless on August 7th at FUM on Howry. If you would like to help with clean up, contact Tanna.
HOMELESS MINISTRY The dinner at Friendly’s was very successful - thanks to all who participated. There were 35 from First Christian there. About $200 was made from the dinners with another $400 from donations to help fund the concert to end homelessness in W. Volusia.
BREAD MINISTRY We continue with our Bread Ministry. We can always use more help in picking it up from Publix and distributing it to the different places.
GOOD SAMARITAN CLINIC …..to open in October. This will be a free clinic open Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 5-9pm for people who have no health insurance. It is estimated that 40% of clients seen in emergency room could be better served in a primary care location. This clinic will be held at 312 W. New York Ave., Deland.
Their Mission Statement: “Motivated by the love of Christ, and in obedience to His command to serve the poor, the Good Samaritan Clinic exists to provide medical care to the uninsured of the community through a network of volunteer providers.”
God uses all gifts for BIG PURPOSES It’s remarkable what your gift will do Whether it's five loaves and two fish or the gift you make to Week of Compassion,
miracles happen when people give all that they can. Through your
WEEK OF COMPASSION gift you help in the following ways: CWS, the Immigration and Refugee Program, the Social and Economic Development
Program, the Emergency Response
Program, the Mission Relationships
and Witness Program and the Education
and Advocacy Program for International Justice and Human Rights. Church World
Service stands with impoverished people as they envision and fashion a better
future. Since 1946 when six
Protestant Denominations joined their resources to respond to the humanitarian
crisis in post-war Europe, CWS has operated on the principle that churches
working in partnership can accomplish more than anyone can alone. Church World Service has introduced two excellent resources for children.
Week of Compassion is pleased to endorse them and encourage their use with
Disciples children's ministries and programs.
We will soon have the opportunity to help build a Habitat home for one of
our own members. What a blessing this will be for one of our families and
for the whole church!
On the first Tuesday of each month, under the direction of Tanna Gartside,
a group of people from FCC, Deland, feed about 60 people at the Interfaith
Kitchen, located at the First United
Methodist Church. Our regular FOOD SUNDAY is
Please bring nonperishable food items for the Neighborhood Center
to distribute to the needy in our community.
The
Neighborhood Center is the local agency assisting people in Deland in crisis.
They help with food, clothing, lodging, and if funds are available, rent &
utilities The following people are being proposed as
Mission Partners for the Region of Florida. While we should pray for all
of our missionaries, having these as Mission Partners gives us an opportunity to
become personally involved with the work they are doing on our behalf. Please
pray for Daniel, Sandra, Scott and Susan. Email them with your
thoughts and support. Remember them with a card during the Holidays.
Let them know that we care. Work load and undependable phone lines may
prevent them from responding to your emails in a quick or personal way, but we
will post all correspondence received in the church office so that you can keep
up with their work. Thank you for caring. Daniel and Sandra Gourdet Prayer Request from the Gourdets Scott and Susan Couper Valiquette _________________________________________ Remember, the mission of the church is
to bring the Good New Of Jesus Christ
to the world. That is why we support our missionaries, and it’s nice to put a
name and face on mission |
